Questions people ask

What does it cost?

Setting up a page is free. When money comes in, SportBacked keeps 3% of backing and 10% of sponsor packages, and card processing fees (typically 1.5% + 20p a payment) are passed on at cost. Both come out of the total raised, so backers pay exactly the amount they choose and nothing is added at checkout.

Who holds the money?

Payments are taken by a regulated payment provider, never by us directly. Money is paid out to the verified bank account of the parent, guardian or adult athlete who runs the page, after we check each payout request against the costs listed on the page.

What if the goal isn't reached?

The athlete keeps what has been raised. There's no all-or-nothing deadline, because part of a season paid for is still a season.

Who can set up a page?

A parent or guardian sets up and runs the page for anyone under 18. Athletes aged 18 or over can run their own.

How do you keep children safe?

Pages show a town or region, never a school or a training schedule. Nobody can message a child through SportBacked. We review every page before it goes live, and photos and updates can be removed if they share too much.

Can local businesses sponsor?

Yes, through fixed-price packages. The family approves every sponsor before anything appears. Logos go on the athlete's page, and on kit only where the sport's own rules allow it.

Is backing a charitable donation?

No. SportBacked isn't a charity and backing goes to an individual athlete, so Gift Aid can't be claimed.

When does SportBacked open?
